Project Angel Food: For LIFE, for LOVE, for as long as it takes

Project Angel Food’s goal is to give food and inspiration to the men, women and children affected by life-threatening diseases, predominantly HIV/AIDS.  They cook and deliver free meals throughout Los Angeles responding to the immediate need to alleviate hunger and suffering. Over 13,000 meals are delivered weekly to people who need them.

Project Angel Food History

Founded in 1989, Project Angel Food was serving 15 meals a day with $11,000 in funds.  A year later, they were serving 90  meals a day with 2 full-time staff employees to meet the needs of the growing HIV community.

Fast-forward 9 years and Project Angel Food has served 2 million meals and give s Elizabeth Taylor the Angel Award. In 10 years of service, they had over 20,000 people volunteer, over 30,000 known cases of people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles, and 1,200 daily meals served.

In 2007, CAA hosted Angel Art which raised over $900,000 with 2,000 new volunteers signing up during the year. They had raised more in a 12 month period than they ever had in their history.

Now their kitchen receives a perfect 100% score from the LA County Department of Health, and their mission is expanded to serve everyone living with life threatening illnesses, not just those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
